  I saw this doctor after years of searching for answers. I am young and have been struggling with a multitude of distressing symptoms, including urinary, which is why I made the appointment after being referred by my pcp. I shared that I've had many symptoms and blood test markers for autoimmune disease, but no one had been able to figure out what was wrong.
  She told me, in a slightly condescending tone, "Have you ever thought that, if you're having things show up on blood work for years and still don't have a diagnosis, that maybe you don't have anything wrong with you?"
  The answer, Mrs. Richardson, is no. Because I'm telling you, I experience this body, and there is something wrong with it. Doctors just hadn't come up with a label yet.
  She also suggested that I may have an anxiety and hypochondriac problem, not a real problem.
  As someone who's experienced chronic illness, there is NOTHING more invalidating and devastating than to see yet another doctor who looks you in the eye when you are ill and tells you it's all in your head.
  We finished the visit by concluding that the only thing she could help me with would be if I had interstitial cystitis, and that if I did, there's nothing she could do about it other than give me pain relievers.. which I did not need.
  I have finally been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. An autoimmune disease.
  This lady, as a doctor, needs to understand that sick humans want to feel cared for, even if you can't do much for them.
